Watched the Grammys tonight (in fucking HD of course!) and it was BORING. The greatest moment that happened on tonight's Grammy's was the fact that Kanye West didn't even win the huge awards. When U2 won, I screamed at the TV (like my dad) "IN YOUR FACE KANYE!!!!" When I surf through sites like mtv.com and people complain that "Mariah and Kanye had more hits than U2 ever did this year. They should've won the album of the year" or "Late Registration will affect the future more than How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb will." Well, that's the thing, even though the Grammys have been catering more to popularity rather than musical artistry, this year they chose the right people to win (with a few exceptions). In my opinion, Kanye West is just a fad, in five years time, his album will be forgotten and he will just be a producer to some new acts. U2, on the other hand, don't have the hits but their artistry will come through. In 1988, the Joshua Tree won the Album of the Year and it truly deserved that honor. In 1991, Achtung Baby was nominated but lost out. In 1997, Pop was released, hated, and forgotten but now it is considered one of the finest experimental albums ever recorded. In 2000, All That You Can't Leave Behind won a shitload of Grammys but didn't win the big one. Now, they win and everyone's complaining that Kanye should've won. I'm sorry but Kanye's work is a work of the moment not the work of an artist. The thing is that U2's latest album is timeless. Let's see who's album will be mentioned in 20 years. Will be Mr. West's or U2's? And one more thing, Fiona Apple was robbed by Kelly Clarkson for that Best Pop Vocal Album.
