As I was reading this article, a solution popped into my head.

The only way that the Filipino film industry can thrive once more is to create something so daring, so original, that it can be released all over the world so it can make more money. Even better, it has to be so good that Hollywood has to remake it.

For example, the Hong Kong film industry was about to give it's last breath. Despite having a huge box office hit in Shaolin Soccer, the industry was still tanking. Enter Andrew Lau and Alan Mak's Infernal Affairs, the film generated a record setting $50 million Chinese yuan. It's simple yet original plot made people actually want to watch it in theatres rather than buying it off the street. It rejuvenated the Hong Kong film industry and made Brad Pitt want to remake it with his Plan B production company. With Jackie Chan's New Police Story already smashing records all across Asia, the HK film industry has never been better.

Filipino film directors have to stop relying on clichés and start thinking about original plots. They also need to make films that have an international appeal rather than a local one. The film industry can thrive once more. Shit, why not make a Filipino version of Infernal Affairs with Richard Gomez and Bong Revilla? It would suck, but people would see it. I think it would be hilarious though.
