The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is brutal, disgusting, masochistic, and ugly. It is also very boring. I hated every minute of this movie. Despite having decent performances from the actors (especially Ermey), their characters were written in such a one-dimensional light that caring about them is fruitless. You do not care about this characters, you want them to die because of their utter stupidity. The film is filled to the brim is cliches and uneven dialogue that it left me cringing in my seat. At 1 hour, 43 minutes, the movie was 13 minutes too long.
Being a horror movie, it's supposed to scare correct? Well, it nevered scared me once or even made me jump. Nispel's direction is heavy-handed as predicted scares come at almost every second. Horror films are supposed to frighten you in a psychological sense, to make you feel that you are within the film. This film doesn't do that one bit. I know that it's a movie but films like Ju-on, the Omen, the Exorcist, and Psycho gave you surprising scares and memories that you don't want to see the film again in fear of being scared again. This film is a total wash, shot in drab colors with atrocious music. Do not see this film, it will only make you stupider.
